Work Experience

Oct 2009 - July 2011

Felsted School

Felsted is one of the UK's leading private schools and is located in Essex, England. I was hired by Felsted to develop a Management Information System (MIS) that would allow for teaching staff, office staff, pupils and parents to access and produce relevant information such as attendance, medical, report and event data.

The system was launched in September 2010 and is utilized daily by over 970 students, 700 staff members and 1,500 parents.

The MIS has been extremely positively received and was described as 'Outstanding' during a recent (2011) Ofsted inspection.

I have a local copy of this system that I have been given permission to demonstrate if required.

May 2009 - July 2009

Sustainable Schools contracted via Fluent Interaction

I was given the task of transforming the current ‘Sustainable Schools’ website from static to dynamic, creating an Associated Content Management System which would allow staff to order, edit and create content themselves.

As well as development, I also provided documentation (technical and non-technical) for both end users and for Fluent Interaction’s staff.

May 2007 - May 2009

The Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) contracted via Capgemini

I was contracted via Capgemini to lead the Site Build team of the Schoolsweb project.

Tasks included technical development (Verity, CSS, XSLTs) on the actual project as well as the development of testing software. Developing documentation for the software I had created, as well as hosting sessions to guide potential users through it.

October 2005 - October 2006

Alwen Hough Johnson (AHJ)

I was hired by AHJ during my Masters Degree to work remotely on an internet .asp based insurance system.

The system allowed both AHJ Underwriters and insurance brokers to process an application, from when it is first brought to AHJ’s attention, all the way through to a quote being produced and producing legally binding certificates.

September 2003 - September 2004

AIG

I was hired by AIG during the work placement year of my degree to be the sole designer of an .asp based intranet system for The Lexington Insurance Company, who fall under the AIG umbrella.

The system essentially allowed employees to input data that was currently being entered into several different spreadsheet and other documents, producing identical documentation and certificates.

The system, originally intended for the Lexington’s London based Healthcare Department went on to be utilized by several other departments, by employees in London, Boston, Bermuda and Dublin.

The system was designed using ASP, MSSQL, VBScript and Crystal Report technologies.

Testimonials

"Ian more than anyone on the team was able to work independently and was accordingly given more responsibility from more critical and complex deliverables. Ian was consistently the most reliable employee of the 11 I had in the time. His timekeeping was excellent and his dedication to working past his contracted hours to complete work was of considerable credit to him."

Keith Logan - Senior Consultant, Capgemini

(30th September 2009)

"I was introduced to Ian last year when we needed to someone to help design, and develop a complicated on-line underwriting system. Right from the outset Ian had some fantastic ideas which allowed the creative process to develop far quicker than I would have imagined. As soon as we had the system design specification Ian began the complex task of development.

During the past twelve months I have had the privilege of working alongside Ian, and to say that I have been impressed with his immense knowledge, and application to the task at hand is an understatement. Ian has worked solidly and professionally. The system has evolved and we are now at a testing stage. Ian has been involved in every step of the process, and I know that I can rely on him totally - whatever we decide on, he gets the job done, on time, and in a professional manner."
